Fiona O'Leary, a designer based in the UK, has created a brilliant tool for her graduation project at The Royal College of Art. A tool that can identify any printed typeface and colour with just the simple push of a button.
The tool takes a photographic sample and contains an algorithm that not only identifies the printed typeface, but also the letter size, kerning and leading as well as the CMYK or RGB values of any physical object. The tool is currently available as a prototype only. However, if this were to be available for purchase, I have no doubt that it will become a very successful product.
